Gemotions

The elevator ascended slowly, each floor a torment. Mark pressed the button repeatedly, as if that would speed things up. He could feel his skin prickling. His palms were slick. He had to breathe deeply to try and calm his hammering heart.

He spotted Emily, the marketing intern, stepping out of the elevator on the tenth floor. Emily's bright smile and easygoing chatter usually didn't bother him, but today, it did. He knew Emily's salary was also higher. He hated himself for these petty feelings. He had tried to hide his disdain, but he found his muscles constricting at the sight of her. He mumbled a greeting as she passed.
